The Square Town Centre in Tallaght has just been granted an extension in duration to an existing planning permission until 2024. The grant provides an extension to a planning permission granted 5 years ago which permits a retail extension with a total gross floor area of 21,490 sq. m and a new 6-level multi-storey car park. The new extension located at Level 2 will extend the shopping centre towards the theatre and Luas stop and will have an anchor retail unit with eight retail units.
In addition to this, pre-letting discussions have begun with a number of well-known international brands for the letting of the retail spaces in the shopping centre. There are plans to start construction on-site next year, both securing employment during the construction period as well as additional employment in the retail stores once they open, which is great news for the community.
Emma Leonard, Asset Manager for Sigma Retail Partners who is working on this extension, said “We have been working hard on this project since we acquired The Square Town Centre with Oaktree Capital in February this year and we are delighted that South Dublin County Council have extended the original planning permission to allow us time to develop. We hope to add to the retailers within The Square by bringing some new and exciting names.”
US private equity giant Oaktree Capital completed its acquisition of The Square shopping centre at the end of February this year. Asset managed by Sigma Retail Partners, the new owners have wasted no time in working on all aspects of the shopping centre, enhancing the current centre and progressing plans to further enhance the range of retail and leisure offers for the shopping centre. The Square Town Centre currently has 160 retail units, a cinema with 13 digital screens and more than 2,400 car spaces.
The centre is anchored by Dunnes Stores, Tesco and Debenhams and consists of 53,603 sq. m (577,500 sq. ft) located on a site of 27 acres. Hugely popular with shoppers, the centre attracts footfall of over 15 million people each year.
