Penneys begin fit-out works in The Square Town Centre

We are delighted to announce that further progress of the much-anticipated arrival of Penneys into The Square Town Centre has just occurred as the retail unit has been handed over to Penneys to begin renovations for the new store in Tallaght. Located on the ground floor, the store will open later this year and will have a floor area of over 43,000 sq. ft. The new store will be a nice boost to the local economy by creating 300 jobs and it will carry Penneys' full product range including womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, beauty and homeware.
Massively popular in Ireland, Penneys is the Irish brand of Primark, a UK based company with 380 stores worldwide in 13 countries including UK, US, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Ireland. The first Penneys store opened in Dublin 53 years ago in 1969, and the new Tallaght store will be the 37th Penneys store in Ireland.
Paddy O’Connor, The Square Town Centre’s asset manager from Sigma Retail Partners, said “We are happy to finally announce that the unit has been handed over to Penneys and they have begun fit-out works. A huge refit of the retail unit is underway and we are extremely excited with Penneys plans for the new store. The new store will also be a significant driver of customer traffic into the shopping centre from the local community and surrounding areas and we are looking forward to the store opening later this year.”
The Square Town Centre was acquired by US private equity giant Oaktree Capital in 2018 and it is asset managed by Sigma Retail Partners. It currently has 160 retail units and more than 2,400 car spaces. The Square Town Centre consists of 577,500 sq. ft located on a site of 27 acres. Hugely popular with shoppers, the centre attracts footfall of over 15 million people each year.
